MerCruiser Repair at Your Dock
MerCruiser powers more sterndrive boats in South Florida than anything else, including most Sea Rays. We repair the engine and the drive where your boat is kept, and we look at both, because most problems start in one and show up in the other. For other brands, see sterndrive and outdrive repair.

When You Call, the Owner Picks Up
Every call goes straight to Ethan, the owner of EG Marine Services and the mechanic who does the work. There’s no receptionist taking a message and no waiting on a callback from someone who’s never seen your boat.
Tell him what’s going on: the alarm on the display, the noise at idle, the engine that won’t turn over. Ethan knows Yamaha, Suzuki, Mercury, and the rest of what runs in South Florida inside and out, so you’ll usually get a straight answer on the first call, whether that’s something you can check yourself or a visit to your dock.
- Straight answers, not a script
- Diagnostic questions answered on the phone
- Honest advice, even when the fix is simple
- The person you talk to is the one who shows up

No-starts
Worn cap and rotor, a bad IAC or throttle position sensor, or a failed starter. We read the fault codes and test the ignition and fuel before replacing parts.
Overheating
Burnt impellers, clogged water inlets, and corroded exhaust manifolds and risers. See water pump impeller replacement.
Fuel problems
Water in the fuel, clogged fuel pumps and injectors, and bad pressure regulators.
Manifolds and risers
Salt water eats MerCruiser exhaust manifolds and risers from the inside. We inspect them and replace them before water gets into the engine.
MerCruiser Alpha and Bravo Drive Repair
Bellows and gimbal bearings
A grinding or knocking noise from the transom, especially in sharp turns, usually means a worn gimbal bearing. Cracked bellows let water into the boat. See gimbal bearing and bellows replacement.
Trim and shifting
Trim senders, trim motors, and shift cables on Alpha and Bravo drives.
Drive service
Gear lube, U-joints, seals, and anodes, once a year or every 100 hours.
Real MerCruiser Jobs
Twin MerCruiser 350s
Full service, plus a bad port exhaust riser and a bad pressure regulator found during the inspection.
MerCruiser 5.0 no-start
A no-start traced to a bad cap and rotor, with a full service done on the same visit.
Impeller pieces in the cooler
A MerCruiser that kept overheating had old impeller pieces packed inside the cooler. They had to be cleared out before the engine would run cool.
Burnt impeller on a MerCruiser 5.0
A burnt water pump impeller replaced and the cooling system checked.

MerCruiser Repair & Service FAQs
Can you fix a MerCruiser without hauling the boat?
Most engine work, like no-starts, overheating, cooling service, and fuel problems, is done in the water at your dock. Bellows and gimbal bearing jobs need the drive off, so the boat comes out of the water. We can haul it at our Sunny Isles location.
Where is the water pump on a MerCruiser?
On Alpha drives, the water pump impeller is in the outdrive. On Bravo setups, the raw water pump is on the engine. We’ve seen a drive pulled by another mechanic looking for a Bravo impeller that was never there.
How often should a MerCruiser be serviced?
Once a year or every 100 hours, whichever comes first. That covers oil, filters, the impeller on a schedule, drive gear lube, anodes, and a bellows and gimbal check. Manifolds and risers should be inspected every few years in salt water.
Which MerCruiser engines do you work on?
MerCruiser 3.0, 4.3, 5.0, 5.7, 350 Mag, 6.2, 377, 8.1, and 496, with Alpha One, Alpha Gen II, and Bravo One, Two, and Three drives.
How much does MerCruiser repair cost?
It depends on the engine, the drive, and what failed. Diagnosis comes first, then you get a quote before any repair starts.
Do you work on Sea Ray boats?
Yes. Sea Rays are some of the boats we work on most, and most of them run MerCruiser engines.
